American Music Theatre |
|
 |
|
The music never stops at “Lancaster’s
Entertainment Showplace.” Born from a dream in
September, 1996, this project required a city of
construction professionals who worked around the
clock, seven days a week. In less than seven
months, there stood a 55,000 square foot,
1,600-seat theatre with a breathtaking lobby,
state-of-the-art sound and lighting for the
56-foot stage and extra wide aisles with
over-sized seats to ensure the most comfortable
and intimate entertainment experience in the
industry. The theatre soon emerged as one of
Lancaster’s most popular destinations, welcoming
millions of visitors from all over the country
by staging critically acclaimed original
productions and hosting some of the world’s most
popular celebrity performers. |

There’s a lot to discover in this magical land
of crystal formations where the Lost River
flows. The five picturesque cavern chambers have

other crystal formations along with fluorescent
minerals. Moving through the cavern is the Lost
River, whose clear waters mysteriously originate

the cavern was dedicated as a chapel in 1949.
It’s been the site of over 80 wedding ceremonies
and was also used as a ballroom in the late
1800’s. The cave’s colorful history include its

Mack Trucks Historical Museum |
|
 |
|
One of the original sightseeing buses built by
Jack and Augustus Mack in the first decade of
the century is in the Museum. The gas-operated,
open-air bus carried up to 26 tourists at a time
around the streets and sights of Chicago in the
summer and New Orleans in the winter, courtesy
of the Higgins Tour Company. In 1925, the bus
was returned to Mack when it was bought from
Higgins and put on display. You can see a 1911
Mack Jr. that shared the streets with
horse-drawn wagons as it made its rounds
delivering dry goods and produce. It’s the final
truck design attributed to the Mack brothers
before they sold their company to investors in
1911. Then there’s the 1918 AC model, one of
4,100 built for World War I. Although there’s no
bulldog on the hood of this early Mack truck, it
was the AC that earned the name while it was
busy dodging bullets and trudging through the
mud in France. The truck’s unique blunt-nosed
design reminded British troops of their own
bulldogs. So did its tenacious ability to get
through anything with the supplies needed at the
front. This museum will treat truck enthusiasts
to all of these … and more. |

Washington Crossing Historic Park |
|
From this site, General George Washington and
men of the Continental Army and militia crossed
the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776 and
marched to Trenton, New Jersey. There they
attacked and defeated Hessian troops quartered
in and around the village. This surprise attack
and victory set the stage for Washington’s
subsequent victories at the Second Battle of
Trenton and Princeton. The Crossing and the
Trenton / Princeton campaign have become known
as the Ten Crucial Days – a campaign that saved
Washington’s army from defeat, allowing them to
fight another day and achieve ultimate victory.
Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves and
interprets for citizens and visitors the site at
which General George Washington planned and
executed his daring crossing of the Delaware
River on December 25, 1776, leading to victory
in the Battle of Trenton and turning the tide of
the Revolutionary War, as well as the social and
economic history of this important location. |

Wharton Esherick Museum |
|
In the decade before he died in 1970 at the age
of 83, Wharton Esherick of Paoli, Pennsylvania,
was heralded by the national art and design
community as the “Dean of American Craftsmen.”
It was an accolade not previously bestowed upon
an American artist and an indication of the
unique nature of Esherick’s work and influence.
Ironically, much of his career was spent in
relative isolation; a lone artisan pursuing his
own vision of high-art craftsmanship during a
period when hand craftsmanship was generally
held in low regard by American culture.
Ultimately, Esherick’s work helped lead to the
renaissance of the 1960s that re-established
hand craftsmanship as the popular and
highly-valued activity it is today. |

|
 |
|
Paradocx Vineyard, an independent vinifera and
premium hybrid wine grape grower, is nestled
among the rolling hills of southern Chester
County. Moderating influences of the Chesapeake
and Delaware Bays and the southern sloping mica
